Settings
Each site has its own settings. Change them on the Sites page by clicking Edit. Changes take effect as soon as your website's page is reloaded.
When a postcode is outside your area
- Block: shows your out-of-area message under the postcode field and stops the form from being sent.
- Warn: shows the message, but the visitor can still send the form.
- Tag only: the visitor sees nothing different. The result is added to the enquiry so you can see it in your email. See Showing the result in your emails.
- Redirect: when the visitor sends the form, they're taken to a page of your choice instead, for example an "Areas we cover" page or a partner you refer work to.
Postcodes we don't recognise are never blocked or redirected.
Add the result to the enquiry message
On by default. When the form is sent, a line like — Service area check: SE28 8NZ is outside the service area (23.4 km away) is added to the end of the form's message box, so it appears in your enquiry email. See Showing the result in your emails.
Messages
Customise the messages shown under the postcode field. You can use these placeholders:
| Placeholder | Replaced with |
|---|---|
{postcode} | The visitor's postcode, e.g. SW1A 1AA |
{distance} | Distance from your business in km, e.g. 12.4 |
Example: Sorry, {postcode} is {distance} km away, which is outside our service area.
Service area
Each site uses your default service area unless you pick a specific one. Useful if you run several branches with separate websites.
Radius, postcodes, or both
On the Service areas page you can:
- Draw a radius around your business postcode.
- Pick postcodes: search for
SW,SE28or a place name likeBattersea, then tick the ones you cover. Use Add all to cover a whole area such as allSWpostcodes (or all100xxzips in the US, all20xxpostcodes in Australia). - Combine them: start with a radius, then add postcodes outside it or untick ones inside it.
You can also click postcodes on the map to switch them in or out. In the UK, you pick postcode districts (like SW1A); in the US, zip codes; in Australia, postcodes.
Postcode field
Service Area WIZARD finds the postcode field automatically by looking for fields labelled or named "postcode", "post code", "postal code" or "zip", and fields with autocomplete="postal-code".
If your field isn't found, set the Postcode field CSS selector under Messages and advanced settings. For example #postcode, or input[name="your-postcode"].
Styling the message
The message appears directly under the postcode field. To match your site's design, add CSS to your theme:
.saw-message { font-family: inherit; }
.saw-in-area { background: #e6f4ea !important; color: #1e4620 !important; }
.saw-out-of-area { background: #fdecea !important; color: #611a15 !important; }
